The Greywolf Graphite Project
The Greywolf Graphite Project, developed by Spil Madencilik, represents Türkiye’s first crystalline graphite project specifically targeting the rapidly growing lithium-ion battery anode market, as well as the high-purity micronized graphite market. Located in Kastamonu Province near the towns of Bozkurt and İnebolu, this project is strategically positioned within one of Türkiye’s prominent geological regions, rich in crystalline graphite potential.
Project Location
The project covers an extensive area of approximately 3,732 hectares near Kutluca and Gölmet villages in Bozkurt, Kastamonu Province. The site is strategically accessible and benefits from existing logistical infrastructure, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and project economics.
Geological Details
The Greywolf Graphite Project area is primarily hosted within Triassic-Jurassic aged Akgöl Formation. This geological formation comprises metamorphosed siltstones, shales, and sandstones with significant crystalline graphite occurrences. The graphite mineralization is strongly associated with granitic intrusions, particularly the Jurassic Kastamonu granitoid, resulting in enhanced crystallinity and graphite quality. Mineralization occurs predominantly in the form of crystalline graphite lenses and veins, making it suitable for high-quality industrial applications.

Exploration Targets
The initial exploration has identified multiple promising graphite zones with high-purity graphite content suitable for advanced industrial applications, particularly lithium-ion battery anodes. Current targets focus on delineating graphite reserves with a high degree of crystallinity and purity through ongoing geological mapping, geophysical surveys, and comprehensive drilling programs.
Production Phases
The project will be developed in two main phases:
Phase 1:
Exploration and Resource Definition: Geological mapping, trenching, and drilling to accurately delineate graphite reserves.
Initial Beneficiation: Implementation of flotation processes to produce high-quality crystalline graphite concentrate.
Phase 2:
Advanced Processing: Establishment of downstream processing capabilities, including micronization and spheroidization, to produce battery-grade graphite suitable for lithium-ion battery anodes and other high-tech applications.
Project Comparisons
Globally, the Greywolf Graphite Project aligns with notable crystalline graphite projects. Domestically, this project is the first of its kind in Türkiye, uniquely positioned due to its crystalline graphite quality, significantly enhancing Türkiye's potential in the global critical minerals market.
